Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Chemical, Textile and Rubber sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.05% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911), which rose 13.77% or 535.0 points to trade at 4420.0 at the close. Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) added 11.75% or 58.0 points to end at 551.5 and Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) was up 5.93% or 24.0 points to 428.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366), which lost 10.70% or 70.0 points to trade at 584.0 in late trade. DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5714) declined 8.19% or 74.0 points to end at 830.0 and Dentsu Inc. (T:4324) shed 6.09% or 315.0 points to 4855.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1861 to 1373 and 228 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 24.69% to 16.06 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.34% or 0.17 to $49.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.53% or 0.28 to hit $52.98 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.39% or 4.94 to trade at $1284.24 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.08% to 109.98, while EUR/JPY fell 0.35% to 128.99.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 93.61.
