Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Marine Transport and Textile sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO:7003), which rose 4.49% or 32.00 points to trade at 744.00 at the close. Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) added 3.66% or 189.00 points to end at 5,351.00 and Konami Corp. (TYO:9766) was up 3.40% or 291.00 points to 8,844.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Resonac Holdings Corp (TYO:4004), which lost 3.21% or 97.00 points to trade at 2,926.00 in late trade. Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4005) declined 3.14% or 11.00 points to end at 339.00 and Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911) shed 2.87% or 117.00 points to 3,956.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1887 to 1723 and 279 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.65% to 21.20.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.77% or 0.56 to $73.04 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.55% or 0.43 to hit $78.31 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.37% or 7.50 to trade at $2,014.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 147.82, while EUR/JPY fell 0.02% to 161.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 102.96.
