Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Rubber, Shipbuilding and Transport sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004), which rose 4.79% or 225.0 points to trade at 4925.0 at the close. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) added 3.22% or 265.0 points to end at 8500.0 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) was up 3.04% or 58.0 points to 1966.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002), which lost 3.76% or 65.0 points to trade at 1663.0 in late trade. J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:3086) declined 3.20% or 55.0 points to end at 1665.0 and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506) shed 3.05% or 74.0 points to 2349.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2207 to 1157 and 189 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.46% to 18.80.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.40% or 0.29 to $72.47 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.35% or 0.27 to hit $77.19 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.41% or 5.20 to trade at $1250.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.09% to 110.35, while EUR/JPY fell 0.06% to 127.31.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 95.21.
