Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Insurance, Steel and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 6.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were T&D Holdings, Inc. (T:8795), which rose 13.07% or 152.5 points to trade at 1319.5 at the close. Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) added 12.86% or 9.0 points to end at 79.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) was up 12.86% or 130.0 points to 1141.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269), which lost 8.17% or 810.0 points to trade at 9110.0 in late trade. Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) declined 2.86% or 65.0 points to end at 2204.0 and Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. (T:2282) shed 1.07% or 29.0 points to 2679.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 3122 to 135 and 73 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 22.46% to 21.44.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.46% or 0.21 to $45.48 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.80% or 0.37 to hit $46.73 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 1.10% or 14.05 to trade at $1287.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.37% to 105.28, while EUR/JPY fell 0.10% to 115.17.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 98.44.
