Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Insurance and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which rose 5.00% or 80.0 points to trade at 1680.0 at the close. DeNA Co Ltd (T:2432) added 4.14% or 103.0 points to end at 2593.0 and Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) was up 4.09% or 18.0 points to 458.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. (T:8802), which lost 2.38% or 50.0 points to trade at 2051.5 in late trade. Eisai Co., Ltd. (T:4523) declined 2.18% or 136.0 points to end at 6105.0 and Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (T:8801) shed 2.06% or 55.5 points to 2633.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2126 to 1019 and 312 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 7.16% to 16.02 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.04% or 0.02 to $47.05 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.10% or 0.05 to hit $49.66 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.18% or 2.23 to trade at $1221.43 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.26% to 113.58, while EUR/JPY rose 0.33% to 128.92.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 96.03.
