Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Transport and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 3.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were TOTO Ltd. (T:5332), which rose 8.48% or 380.00 points to trade at 4,860.00 at the close. Japan Steel Works Ltd (T:5631) added 7.68% or 260.00 points to end at 3,645.00 and Fanuc Corp. (T:6954) was up 7.11% or 1,400.00 points to 21,080.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included East Japan Railway Co. (T:9020), which lost 1.81% or 126.00 points to trade at 6,854.00 in late trade. Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9532) declined 1.60% or 35.00 points to end at 2,149.00 and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9531) shed 1.19% or 28.00 points to 2,319.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 3048 to 560 and 176 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.02% to 27.05.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was up 2.97% or 2.82 to $97.86 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 3.34% or 3.27 to hit $101.29 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 1.36% or 26.05 to trade at $1,935.25 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.04% to 118.76, while EUR/JPY rose 0.07% to 131.06.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 98.35.
