Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Gas & Water and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 2.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Renesas Electronics Corp (TYO:6723), which rose 10.54% or 240.50 points to trade at 2,520.50 at the close. Nikon Corp. (TYO:7731) added 10.33% or 161.50 points to end at 1,726.00 and Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035) was up 7.11% or 2,310.00 points to 34,720.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Resonac Holdings Corp (TYO:4004), which lost 8.65% or 321.00 points to trade at 3,397.00 in late trade. IHI Corp. (TYO:7013) declined 5.70% or 219.00 points to end at 3,616.00 and Asahi Kasei Corp. (TYO:3407) shed 2.27% or 25.00 points to 1,075.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2508 to 1100 and 259 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.43% to 20.72.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.17% or 0.14 to $83.50 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.16% or 0.14 to hit $88.56 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.15% or 3.55 to trade at $2,338.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.07% to 154.93, while EUR/JPY rose 0.04% to 165.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 105.57.
