Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Transport and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 2.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202), which rose 7.94% or 50.00 points to trade at 680.00 at the close. Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp (TYO:9432) added 5.23% or 219.00 points to end at 4,405.00 and Yamaha Motor Co Ltd (TYO:7272) was up 4.48% or 178.00 points to 4,155.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which lost 6.20% or 232.00 points to trade at 3,512.00 in late trade. Nippon Yusen K.K (TYO:9101) declined 1.09% or 35.00 points to end at 3,188.00 and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (TYO:9104) shed 0.68% or 24.00 points to 3,486.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 3050 to 612 and 179 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.67% to 20.00.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.46% or 0.31 to $68.01 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.41% or 0.30 to hit $72.81 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.27% or 5.15 to trade at $1,918.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.05% to 144.13, while EUR/JPY fell 0.06% to 157.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 102.24.
