Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Inpex Corp. (T:1605), which rose 6.77% or 69.0 points to trade at 1088.0 at the close. Softbank Group Corp. (T:9984) added 6.03% or 323.0 points to end at 5683.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) was up 5.33% or 122.0 points to 2410.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eisai Co., Ltd. (T:4523), which lost 2.60% or 170.0 points to trade at 6378.0 in late trade. Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9531) declined 1.52% or 33.0 points to end at 2133.0 and Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (T:8303) shed 1.46% or 31.0 points to 2087.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 3010 to 646 and 143 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 21.30.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.27% or 0.22 to $81.44 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.08% or 0.07 to hit $83.79 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.06% or 1.15 to trade at $1817.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.08% to 115.38, while EUR/JPY rose 0.03% to 131.07.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 95.657.
