Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519), which rose 6.78% or 246.0 points to trade at 3874.0 at the close. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) added 5.14% or 320.0 points to end at 6550.0 and Fanuc Corp. (T:6954) was up 4.06% or 955.0 points to 24500.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (T:8801), which lost 3.69% or 93.5 points to trade at 2443.0 in late trade. Sumitomo Realty & Development Co. (T:8830) declined 3.18% or 116.0 points to end at 3528.0 and TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) shed 2.68% or 150.0 points to 5450.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2170 to 1392 and 205 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 28.94.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.96% or 0.69 to $71.36 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.80% or 0.60 to hit $74.84 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.34% or 6.00 to trade at $1790.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.20% to 113.35, while EUR/JPY rose 0.00% to 127.96.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 96.175.
