Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Transport, Mining and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.33% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755), which rose 3.48% or 22.00 points to trade at 655.00 at the close. Resonac Holdings Corp (TYO:4004) added 3.24% or 68.00 points to end at 2,164.00 and Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO:4902) was up 3.14% or 16.00 points to 525.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501), which lost 1.55% or 7.00 points to trade at 445.00 in late trade. Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523) declined 1.39% or 117.00 points to end at 8,277.00 and Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233) shed 1.23% or 22.00 points to 1,762.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2906 to 689 and 240 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.02% to 17.37 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.04% or 0.03 to $81.67 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $87.64 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.32% or 6.15 to trade at $1,922.05 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.49% to 130.21, while EUR/JPY rose 0.90% to 141.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 101.56.
