Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Gas & Water, Shipbuilding and Food sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.92% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NEC Corp. (TYO:6701), which rose 14.20% or 740.00 points to trade at 5,950.00 at the close. Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (TYO:9007) added 5.74% or 109.00 points to end at 2,007.00 and SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (TYO:9412) was up 4.92% or 26.00 points to 554.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Z Holdings Corp (TYO:4689), which lost 5.61% or 20.80 points to trade at 349.80 in late trade. Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5214) declined 5.37% or 139.00 points to end at 2,450.00 and Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6770) shed 4.13% or 51.00 points to 1,184.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2437 to 1165 and 241 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 7.31% to 15.22 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 1.22% or 0.94 to $75.84 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 1.10% or 0.88 to hit $79.45 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.50% or 10.00 to trade at $1,989.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.37% to 136.79, while EUR/JPY rose 0.22% to 150.51.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 101.58.
