Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Manufacturing, Transport and Railway & Bus sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Inpex Corp. (TYO:1605), which rose 16.62% or 301.50 points to trade at 2,116.00 at the close. Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202) added 15.65% or 100.00 points to end at 739.00 and Secom Co., Ltd. (TYO:9735) was up 7.57% or 728.00 points to 10,340.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Olympus Corp. (TYO:7733), which lost 12.02% or 270.50 points to trade at 1,980.00 in late trade. Mitsubishi Materials Corp. (TYO:5711) declined 9.15% or 237.00 points to end at 2,353.50 and DeNA Co Ltd (TYO:2432) shed 8.59% or 143.00 points to 1,522.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2290 to 1354 and 219 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.50% to 20.03.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.39% or 0.33 to $84.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.43% or 0.38 to hit $87.93 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.02% or 0.30 to trade at $1,950.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.15% to 143.93, while EUR/JPY rose 0.46% to 158.47.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 102.11.
