Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Rubber sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911), which rose 5.64% or 490.0 points to trade at 9177.0 at the close. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) added 4.67% or 14.0 points to end at 313.5 and Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (T:5541) was up 4.33% or 170.0 points to 4100.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maruha Nichiro Corp (T:1333), which lost 3.17% or 130.0 points to trade at 3970.0 in late trade. Olympus Corp. (T:7733) declined 2.96% or 125.0 points to end at 4095.0 and NKSJ Holdings, Inc. (T:8630) shed 2.85% or 138.0 points to 4700.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2540 to 818 and 189 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.58% to 14.36.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.29% or 0.19 to $64.92 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.44% or 0.33 to hit $75.69 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.03% or 0.40 to trade at $1301.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 109.94, while EUR/JPY rose 0.16% to 129.95.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 93.29.
