Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shimizu Corp. (T:1803), which rose 4.29% or 31.0 points to trade at 754.0 at the close. NH Foods Ltd (T:2282) added 3.59% or 155.0 points to end at 4470.0 and Taisei Corp. (T:1801) was up 3.22% or 115.0 points to 3690.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707), which lost 4.50% or 115.0 points to trade at 2441.0 in late trade. Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) declined 2.83% or 71.0 points to end at 2435.0 and Hitachi Ltd (T:6501) shed 2.59% or 178.0 points to 6683.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2108 to 1455 and 236 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 21.90.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.64% or 0.53 to $83.83 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.56% or 0.48 to hit $86.54 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.26% or 4.70 to trade at $1821.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.24% to 114.47, while EUR/JPY rose 0.34% to 130.79.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 95.115.
