Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financial Services, Insurance and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.73% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kajima Corp. (TYO:1812), which rose 6.04% or 114.00 points to trade at 2,000.00 at the close. Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) added 5.52% or 670.00 points to end at 12,810.00 and T&D Holdings, Inc. (TYO:8795) was up 5.08% or 91.00 points to 1,884.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO:4902), which lost 8.86% or 48.00 points to trade at 494.00 in late trade. Dentsu Inc. (TYO:4324) declined 8.27% or 410.00 points to end at 4,550.00 and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) shed 7.09% or 57.00 points to 747.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1850 to 1796 and 206 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.96% to 16.09.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.23% or 0.16 to $71.27 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.25% or 0.19 to hit $75.42 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.51% or 10.25 to trade at $2,012.45 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.17% to 135.88, while EUR/JPY fell 0.09% to 147.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 102.22.
