Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electrical/Machinery, Chemical and Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which rose 4.40% or 113.00 points to trade at 2,682.00 at the close. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) added 4.36% or 170.00 points to end at 4,065.00 and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (TYO:5713) was up 3.60% or 164.00 points to 4,721.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751), which lost 2.61% or 31.00 points to trade at 1,159.00 in late trade. Mitsubishi Estate Co Ltd (TYO:8802) declined 2.16% or 36.50 points to end at 1,656.00 and Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. (TYO:8766) shed 2.00% or 55.50 points to 2,716.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2101 to 1409 and 303 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.24% to 18.93.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.30% or 0.22 to $73.89 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.22% or 0.17 to hit $78.86 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.11% or 2.05 to trade at $1,842.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.55% to 134.13, while EUR/JPY rose 0.53% to 141.09.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 105.02.
