Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Precision Instruments, Steel and Shipbuilding sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202), which rose 6.47% or 41.00 points to trade at 675.00 at the close. JGC Corp. (TYO:1963) added 5.85% or 96.00 points to end at 1,737.00 and Inpex Corp. (TYO:1605) was up 5.51% or 77.00 points to 1,474.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which lost 4.28% or 520.00 points to trade at 11,640.00 in late trade. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) declined 3.09% or 360.00 points to end at 11,290.00 and Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4063) shed 2.18% or 93.00 points to 4,182.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2647 to 988 and 214 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.77% to 16.66.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was up 5.35% or 4.05 to $79.72 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 5.31% or 4.24 to hit $84.13 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.53% or 10.45 to trade at $1,975.75 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.56% to 133.54, while EUR/JPY rose 0.50% to 144.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 102.43.
