Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Gas & Water, Power and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755), which rose 2.83% or 18.00 points to trade at 655.00 at the close. Japan Steel Works Ltd (TYO:5631) added 2.72% or 81.00 points to end at 3,055.00 and Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4063) was up 2.51% or 380.00 points to 15,545.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TYO:5202), which lost 4.30% or 25.00 points to trade at 556.00 in late trade. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211) declined 3.10% or 17.00 points to end at 531.00 and Unitika, Ltd. (TYO:3103) shed 2.39% or 7.00 points to 286.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1797 to 1710 and 264 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.48% to 24.52.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was down 0.20% or 0.17 to $86.35 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.12% or 0.11 to hit $91.69 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.22% or 3.85 to trade at $1,726.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.27% to 144.48, while EUR/JPY fell 0.01% to 143.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.41% at 110.43.
