Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Electrical/Machinery, Precision Instruments and Machinery sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which rose 4.32% or 194.00 points to trade at 4,681.00 at the close. NEC Corp. (TYO:6701) added 3.95% or 313.00 points to end at 8,240.00 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) was up 3.24% or 163.00 points to 5,189.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911), which lost 5.07% or 212.00 points to trade at 3,966.00 in late trade. Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd. (TYO:4272) declined 3.71% or 52.00 points to end at 1,350.00 and Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755) shed 2.84% or 17.10 points to 585.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2064 to 1545 and 254 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.70% to 17.05.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was up 0.60% or 0.47 to $78.33 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 0.52% or 0.43 to hit $83.31 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.18% or 3.70 to trade at $2,043.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.18% to 146.97, while EUR/JPY fell 0.11% to 161.31.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 102.70.
