Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Automobiles & Parts and Steel sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:4503), which rose 2.35% or 40.0 points to trade at 1739.8 at the close. Eisai Co., Ltd. (T:4523) added 2.25% or 181.0 points to end at 8226.0 and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T:7003) was up 2.20% or 33.0 points to 1530.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JGC Corp. (T:1963), which lost 3.41% or 78.0 points to trade at 2209.0 in late trade. TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) declined 3.10% or 180.0 points to end at 5630.0 and Otsuka Holdings Ltd (T:4578) shed 3.04% or 167.0 points to 5332.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2020 to 1309 and 241 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 8.48% to 15.00.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.48% or 0.31 to $65.06 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.19% or 0.14 to hit $75.43 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.06% or 0.80 to trade at $1296.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 109.84, while EUR/JPY rose 0.16% to 128.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 93.87.
