Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Transport and Chemical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501), which rose 6.78% or 40.0 points to trade at 630.0 at the close. Softbank Corp. (T:9984) added 4.71% or 421.0 points to end at 9362.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) was up 4.45% or 70.0 points to 1643.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ebara Corp. (T:6361), which lost 8.45% or 275.0 points to trade at 2980.0 in late trade. Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (T:8253) declined 5.69% or 99.0 points to end at 1641.0 and Otsuka Holdings Ltd (T:4578) shed 5.19% or 290.0 points to 5302.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2261 to 1250 and 171 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 14.03% to 22.35.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.43% or 0.24 to $55.45 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.11% or 0.07 to hit $65.40 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $1201.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.04% to 113.87, while EUR/JPY unchanged 0.00% to 128.49.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 97.07.
