Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Construction, Gas & Water and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nitto Denko Co (TYO:6988), which rose 6.17% or 510.00 points to trade at 8,780.00 at the close. Canon Inc (TYO:7751) added 5.19% or 156.00 points to end at 3,162.00 and JTEKT Corp. (TYO:6473) was up 5.07% or 52.00 points to 1,077.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which lost 9.21% or 1,070.00 points to trade at 10,550.00 in late trade. Nomura Holdings Inc (TYO:8604) declined 7.24% or 37.90 points to end at 485.40 and Hitachi Zosen Corp. (TYO:7004) shed 3.63% or 31.00 points to 823.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2004 to 1527 and 286 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.38% to 16.82.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.19% or 0.14 to $74.44 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.32% or 0.25 to hit $77.97 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.75% or 15.00 to trade at $2,011.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.02% to 133.64, while EUR/JPY rose 0.03% to 147.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 101.16.
