Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Shipbuilding and Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Rakuten Inc (T:4755), which rose 6.01% or 42.5 points to trade at 749.4 at the close. Hitachi Construction Machinery Co (T:6305) added 3.75% or 130.0 points to end at 3600.0 and Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5214) was up 3.53% or 105.0 points to 3080.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735), which lost 8.35% or 710.0 points to trade at 7790.0 in late trade. Familymart Ltd (T:8028) declined 4.03% or 490.0 points to end at 11660.0 and TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) shed 3.02% or 160.0 points to 5140.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2040 to 1301 and 216 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.80% to 19.89 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.19% or 0.14 to $73.31 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.50% or 0.39 to hit $78.00 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.03% or 0.40 to trade at $1251.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.23% to 110.74, while EUR/JPY rose 0.91% to 128.99.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 94.50.
