Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Rubber, Shipbuilding and Transport sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366), which rose 5.83% or 44.0 points to trade at 799.0 at the close. Resona Holdings, Inc. (T:8308) added 4.19% or 27.2 points to end at 676.0 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) was up 3.72% or 48.0 points to 1338.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (T:7270), which lost 7.06% or 264.0 points to trade at 3478.0 in late trade. Taisei Corp. (T:1801) declined 2.48% or 140.0 points to end at 5505.0 and TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) shed 2.02% or 130.0 points to 6310.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1712 to 1617 and 251 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.30% to 14.42.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.30% or 0.17 to $57.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 0.22% or 0.14 to hit $63.94 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.21% or 2.60 to trade at $1266.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.18% to 113.09, while EUR/JPY rose 0.16% to 133.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 93.08.
