Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (TYO:3863), which rose 3.16% or 40.00 points to trade at 1,305.00 at the close. CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751) added 2.38% or 24.00 points to end at 1,034.50 and Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541) was up 2.27% or 36.00 points to 1,623.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IHI Corp. (TYO:7013), which lost 7.02% or 262.00 points to trade at 3,468.00 in late trade. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) declined 2.30% or 100.00 points to end at 4,255.00 and Yokohama Rubber Co Ltd (TYO:5101) shed 2.22% or 70.00 points to 3,079.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1822 to 1686 and 344 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.27% to 19.21.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.11% or 0.09 to $79.54 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.11% or 0.09 to hit $83.16 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.32% or 6.35 to trade at $1,970.05 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.15% to 140.69, while EUR/JPY fell 0.07% to 155.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 100.94.
