A deal which will give Italian state lender CDP a majority stake in Open Fiber should ease talks over a long-delayed merger of the broadband firm's network assets with those of Telecom Italia , the CEO of the Italian phone group said on Monday. (*) A single broadband network could make sense in three or five years, Enel CEO Francesco Starace told Il Sole 24 Ore in an interview. He added that the investment in Open Fiber had been an excellent deal for Enel and the utility would make a 1.7 billion euros capital gain by selling its stake in Open Fiber to CDP and Macquarie.
Enel has no intention to own more than 50% of Latin American fiber optic network operator Ufinet since it is not its core business, Starace added.
