Italy's UniCredit said Chief Executive Officer Jean Pierre Mustier would step down at the end of his mandate in April next year after clashing with the bank's board over strategy. bank said it had appointed Adeline De Metz head of group regulatory affairs. CEO Guido Bastianini has proposed to Italy's Treasury, the bank's first shareholder, a plan in recent weeks to allow the lender to remain on a standalone basis beyond a December 2021 privatisation deadline indicated by Europe, the MF said. According to the paper, the plan foresees 3,000 redundancies, less than the 6,000-7,000 assumed in a potential merger with UniCredit, which after Mustier's exit appears to be more likely.
