JAKARTA, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Indonesia will seek to import cattle from a broader range of countries than at present, the chief economics minister said on Wednesday, as part of efforts to reduce the cost of beef, which has contributed to keeping inflation high.
Getting more suppliers "will make beef prices more competitive," Darmin Nasution said during the announcement of a stimulus package in Jakarta.
The package is intended to support the rupiah, help contain inflation and prop up sagging growth in Southeast Asia's largest economy.
Nasution said a further installment of stimulus steps would be announced at the end of September.
