Investing.com — Heniff Transportation announced Wednesday it has signed a Letter of Intent to acquire 100 Zero-Emission Trucks from Thompson Truck Centers and Nikola Corp (NASDAQ:NKLA).
The bulk liquid chemical and food transportation company said it has agreed to initially acquire 10 Nikola Tre Battery-Powered Electric Vehicle (BEV) trucks from Thompson Truck Centers, a member of Nikola's sales and service dealer network.
Once the initial 10 vehicles are successfully deployed, Heniff and Thompson have agreed to an order of an additional 90 trucks to be deployed into Heniff’s fleet.
The deal between Heniff and Thompson is structured as a fleet-as-a-service model. Thompson will provide the sales, service, maintenance, and energy infrastructure to operate the trucks. The deliveries are expected to start in the first half of 2022.
“We see this partnership with Nikola and Thompson as a means to accelerate our strategy for electrification of our fleet and as a positive benefit for our customers, communities, employees, and stakeholders,” said Bob Heniff, CEO of Heniff Transportation.
Nikola shares are down over 1.5% in early Wednesday trading despite the news. On Tuesday, it was revealed Nikola has agreed to pay $125 million to settle charges that it defrauded investors by misleading them about its products, technical advancements, and commercial prospects.
