Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Utilities and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 2.18% to hit a new 1-month low, while the SBF 120 index lost 2.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Klepierre (PA:LOIM), which fell 0.05% or 0.02 points to trade at 41.70 at the close. Pernod Ricard SA (PA:PERP) fell 0.50% or 0.49 points to end at 97.00 and Sodexo (PA:EXHO) was down 0.65% or 0.61 points to 93.78 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Peugeot SA (PA:PEUP), which lost 6.51% or 0.95 points to trade at 13.71 in late trade. ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) declined 5.93% or 0.25 points to end at 3.98 and Renault SA (PA:RENA) shed 4.89% or 4.21 points to 81.82.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Sartorius Stedim Biotech (PA:STDM) which rose 1.55% to 350.00, Worldline SA (PA:WLN) which was up 0.89% to settle at 23.200 and Gecina Nom. (PA:GFCP) which gained 0.42% to close at 120.85.
The worst performers were Peugeot SA (PA:PEUP) which was down 6.51% to 13.71 in late trade, STMicroelectronics (PA:STM) which lost 6.00% to settle at 4.625 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) which was down 5.93% to 3.98 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 504 to 162 and 101 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 8.43% to 24.83.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.90% or 11.00 to $1230.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.03% or 0.01 to hit $35.71 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.03% or 0.01 to trade at $37.70 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.04% to 1.1395, while EUR/GBP rose 0.86% to 0.8051.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.02% at 94.57.
