Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb), which rose 14.48% or 1.18 points to trade at 9.33 at the close. Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TO:KEL) added 9.68% or 0.30 points to end at 3.40 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was up 8.77% or 0.10 points to 1.24 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc (TO:VRX), which lost 10.97% or 12.84 points to trade at 104.16 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) declined 5.31% or 0.18 points to end at 3.21 and Allied Properties REIT (TO:AP_u) shed 4.68% or 1.49 points to 30.35.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 714 to 521 and 337 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.05% to 25.08.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.77% or 21.80 to $1209.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 5.13% or 1.63 to hit $33.38 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 5.03% or 1.66 to trade at $34.67 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.39% to 0.7292, while CAD/EUR rose 1.30% to 0.6610.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.78% at 97.37.
