China's Ministry of Commerce has unveiled plans to impose stricter export controls on specific technologies used in producing battery components and processing critical minerals such as lithium and gallium, Reuters has reported.
According to the state-run Xinhua News Agency, the proposed changes are part of an initiative to "strengthen the management of technology imports and exports".
A public consultation on the measures has been announced, with submissions open until February 1.
These proposed regulations follow earlier export restrictions imposed by China on materials with high-tech and military applications, implemented in response to increasing technology curbs from the United States.
Gallium and germanium, now restricted from export to the US, play crucial roles in manufacturing semiconductors, satellite components and other advanced technology products.
The new measures underscore the escalating tension in global supply chains for critical minerals and advanced technologies.
