Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 2.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Headwater Exploration Inc (TSX:HWX), which rose 4.44% or 0.28 points to trade at 6.58 at the close. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) added 3.28% or 0.53 points to end at 16.69 and Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) was up 2.70% or 0.19 points to 7.23 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED), which lost 25.78% or 1.33 points to trade at 3.83 in late trade. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) declined 19.37% or 1.04 points to end at 4.33 and Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) shed 15.73% or 0.73 points to 3.91.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 755 to 228 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.05% to 22.17.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.05% or 18.15 to $1,702.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 4.93% or 4.36 to hit $92.81 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 3.91% or 3.69 to trade at $98.11 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.63% to 0.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 112.66.
