Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 39.32% or 9.35 points to trade at 33.13 at the close. Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS) added 8.95% or 3.85 points to end at 46.89 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) was up 8.65% or 3.890 points to 48.880 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (TSX:AUP), which lost 7.09% or 1.58 points to trade at 20.72 in late trade. Boralex Inc (TSX:BLX) declined 5.54% or 2.93 points to end at 49.93 and MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) shed 5.00% or 1.15 points to 21.84.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 784 to 256 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.44% or 8.20 to $1842.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.44% or 0.23 to hit $52.84 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.13% or 0.07 to trade at $55.57 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.61% to 0.7828, while CAD/EUR fell 0.19% to 0.6463.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 90.547.
