Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.05% to hit a new 52-week low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc (TO:NGD), which rose 5.77% or 0.060 points to trade at 1.100 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TO:NG) added 3.24% or 0.17 points to end at 5.41 and Celestica Inc. (TO:CLS) was up 3.15% or 0.40 points to 13.11 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aphria Inc (TO:APH), which lost 17.35% or 2.680 points to trade at 12.770 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) declined 15.80% or 1.450 points to end at 7.730 and Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) shed 14.40% or 7.290 points to 43.340.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 907 to 253 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.74% to 20.28.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.13% or 1.60 to $1230.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.17% or 0.79 to hit $66.80 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.84% or 0.65 to trade at $76.97 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.24% to 0.7615, while CAD/EUR fell 0.07% to 0.6689.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 96.38.
