Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Real Estate and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 9.32% or 0.49 points to trade at 5.75 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) added 6.60% or 0.20 points to end at 3.23 and Osisko Gold Ro (TSX:OR) was up 6.33% or 1.41 points to 23.67 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Colliers International Group Inc Bats (TSX:CIGI), which lost 9.70% or 13.81 points to trade at 128.50 in late trade. International Petroleum Corp (TSX:IPCO) declined 7.77% or 1.02 points to end at 12.10 and Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) shed 7.58% or 0.25 points to 3.05.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 649 to 343 and 97 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.46% to 13.18.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.68% or 33.50 to $2,025.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 5.31% or 4.02 to hit $71.64 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 5.03% or 3.99 to trade at $75.32 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.56% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR fell 0.80% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 101.69.
