Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Whitecap Resources Inc . (TSX:WCP), which rose 3.70% or 0.25 points to trade at 7.00 at the close. Atco Ltd (TSX:ACOx) added 2.95% or 1.20 points to end at 41.94 and Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) was up 2.89% or 0.32 points to 11.41 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC), which lost 10.92% or 4.82 points to trade at 39.30 in late trade. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) declined 7.95% or 0.97 points to end at 11.23 and Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS) shed 7.64% or 3.86 points to 46.65.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 766 to 249 and 97 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.60% to 17.18.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.20% or 21.20 to $1783.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.33% or 0.22 to hit $66.28 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.23 to trade at $69.90 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.08% to 0.7799, while CAD/EUR fell 0.27% to 0.6887.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 96.015.
