Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, Clean Technology and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.79% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS), which rose 12.53% or 12.59 points to trade at 113.09 at the close. Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) added 5.98% or 0.22 points to end at 3.90 and Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR) was up 4.72% or 0.30 points to 6.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET), which lost 8.39% or 1.41 points to trade at 15.39 in late trade. HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) declined 7.47% or 0.26 points to end at 3.22 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) shed 7.29% or 1.12 points to 14.25.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 753 to 324 and 102 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.41% or 6.75 to $1643.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.48% or 1.24 to hit $48.66 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.84% or 1.54 to trade at $52.72 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.26% to 0.7510, while CAD/EUR fell 0.30% to 0.6898.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 99.047.
