Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ovintiv Inc (TSX:OVV), which rose 363.71% or 18.04 points to trade at 23.00 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) added 3.80% or 0.090 points to end at 2.460 and Saputo Inc (TSX:SAP) was up 3.30% or 1.32 points to 41.36 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA), which lost 7.51% or 0.520 points to trade at 6.405 in late trade. Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb) declined 7.42% or 1.41 points to end at 17.59 and Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD) shed 7.20% or 3.24 points to 41.77.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 791 to 297 and 96 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.66% or 10.45 to $1582.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.66% or 1.44 to hit $52.75 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.89% or 1.73 to trade at $58.16 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.30% to 0.7583, while CAD/EUR fell 0.22% to 0.6884.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 97.745.
