Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Materials, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which rose 3.16% or 2.33 points to trade at 76.07 at the close. Alimentation Couche Tard Inc (TSX:ATD) added 2.27% or 1.76 points to end at 79.37 and International Petroleum Corp (TSX:IPCO) was up 2.20% or 0.40 points to 18.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which lost 7.56% or 6.89 points to trade at 84.27 in late trade. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) declined 4.88% or 0.91 points to end at 17.75 and Orla Mining Ltd (TSX:OLA) shed 4.84% or 0.28 points to 5.51.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 564 to 389 and 95 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.03% to 10.72.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 2.53% or 60.55 to $2,332.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.70% or 0.54 to hit $77.03 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.45% or 0.37 to trade at $81.53 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.29% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.21% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 104.97.
