Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN), which rose 4.60% or 0.31 points to trade at 7.05 at the close. Brookfield Property Partners LP (TO:BPY_u) added 3.36% or 0.88 points to end at 27.08 and Linamar Corporation (TO:LNR) was up 3.28% or 1.83 points to 57.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB), which lost 7.68% or 0.710 points to trade at 8.540 in late trade. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) declined 6.83% or 4.100 points to end at 55.900 and Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC) shed 5.71% or 0.61 points to 10.08.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 585 to 506 and 122 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 10.20% to 11.36 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.73% or 8.90 to $1207.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.38% or 0.26 to hit $68.61 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.17% or 0.13 to trade at $76.37 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.25% to 0.7731, while CAD/EUR rose 0.12% to 0.6612.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 94.64.
