Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR), which rose 6.66% or 0.430 points to trade at 6.890 at the close. Linamar Corporation (TSX:LNR) added 5.93% or 4.19 points to end at 74.87 and Barrick Gold Corporation (TSX:ABX) was up 5.12% or 1.25 points to 25.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET), which lost 12.71% or 1.88 points to trade at 12.91 in late trade. SunOpta Inc . (TSX:SOY) declined 12.30% or 1.18 points to end at 8.41 and Boyd Group Income Fund (TSX:BYD) shed 9.02% or 21.79 points to 219.77.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 571 to 430 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 15.44% to 16.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.97% or 17.70 to $1848.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.75% or 2.31 to hit $81.84 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.17% or 1.84 to trade at $82.94 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.42% to 0.8005, while CAD/EUR rose 0.50% to 0.6967.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.89% at 94.793.
