Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ), which rose 4.76% or 0.030 points to trade at 0.660 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) added 4.44% or 0.46 points to end at 10.83 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) was up 3.55% or 0.220 points to 6.420 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX:K), which lost 5.49% or 0.37 points to trade at 6.37 in late trade. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) declined 5.42% or 0.78 points to end at 13.60 and Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd . (TSX:AEM) shed 4.45% or 3.42 points to 73.48.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 573 to 473 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.38% to 12.63.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.78% or 11.75 to $1503.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.43% or 0.24 to hit $56.17 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.37% or 0.86 to trade at $61.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.21% to 0.7552, while CAD/EUR rose 0.04% to 0.6903.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.00% at 98.767.
