Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Materials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which rose 6.87% or 0.18 points to trade at 2.80 at the close. Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS) added 4.42% or 6.58 points to end at 155.35 and Sprott Inc . (TSX:SII) was up 3.83% or 1.77 points to 47.97 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT), which lost 15.70% or 4.04 points to trade at 21.69 in late trade. Barrick Gold Corporation (TSX:ABX) declined 8.80% or 2.08 points to end at 21.55 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) shed 7.96% or 0.59 points to 6.82.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 554 to 422 and 88 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.79% to 12.57.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.98% or 20.15 to $2,031.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.02% or 0.74 to hit $72.05 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.32 to trade at $77.83 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.50% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.18% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.92% at 103.09.
