Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the IT, Clean Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TFI International Inc (TO:TFII), which rose 10.02% or 3.94 points to trade at 43.26 at the close. Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) added 9.09% or 0.33 points to end at 3.96 and Aphria Inc (TO:APH) was up 6.22% or 0.650 points to 11.100 in late trade.
Biggest losers included New Gold Inc (TO:NGD), which lost 13.23% or 0.250 points to trade at 1.640 in late trade. Constellation Software Inc . (TO:CSU) declined 8.98% or 94.67 points to end at 959.93 and Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) shed 6.00% or 13.380 points to 209.470.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 532 to 502 and 151 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.56% to 12.84.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.25% or 3.10 to $1222.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.82% or 0.57 to hit $69.04 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.40% or 0.30 to trade at $74.24 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.12% to 0.7656, while CAD/EUR fell 0.06% to 0.6566.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 94.45.
