Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Materials and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd (TSX:FFH), which rose 7.35% or 63.87 points to trade at 932.70 at the close. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) added 6.22% or 0.75 points to end at 12.80 and Dundee Precious Metals Inc (TSX:DPM) was up 3.62% or 0.29 points to 8.31 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Air Canada (TSX:AC), which lost 8.42% or 1.95 points to trade at 21.20 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) declined 6.56% or 2.23 points to end at 31.74 and Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd . (TSX:AEM) shed 6.09% or 4.04 points to 62.31.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 552 to 422 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.47% to 12.38.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to $1,851.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.76% or 2.17 to hit $76.32 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.55% or 2.17 to trade at $82.97 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.32% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 103.81.
