Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Energy and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Element Fleet Management Corp (TSX:EFN), which rose 13.69% or 2.45 points to trade at 20.35 at the close. goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) added 12.86% or 12.34 points to end at 108.30 and Stella-Jones Inc. (TSX:SJ) was up 7.76% or 4.27 points to 59.31 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX:CTS), which lost 22.79% or 0.80 points to trade at 2.71 in late trade. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) declined 14.42% or 8.18 points to end at 48.55 and Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) shed 14.23% or 0.80 points to 4.82.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 539 to 403 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.49% to 12.98.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.26% or 5.25 to $2,037.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.23% or 0.91 to hit $72.80 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.03% or 0.80 to trade at $76.64 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 101.23.
