Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Industrials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which rose 4.40% or 0.14 points to trade at 3.32 at the close. Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML) added 4.17% or 0.12 points to end at 3.00 and International Petroleum Corp (TSX:IPCO) was up 3.98% or 0.69 points to 18.03 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TSX:MFI), which lost 5.70% or 1.37 points to trade at 22.66 in late trade. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) declined 5.43% or 0.15 points to end at 2.61 and Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) shed 4.68% or 0.26 points to 5.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 482 to 465 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.39% to 11.91.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.90% or 44.55 to $2,392.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.72% or 0.62 to hit $85.59 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.28 to trade at $90.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 105.07.
