Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Materials, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tricon Capital Group Inc (TSX:TCN), which rose 10.10% or 1.00 points to trade at 10.90 at the close. Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF) added 9.37% or 4.51 points to end at 52.65 and Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX) was up 6.46% or 0.58 points to 9.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Real Matters Inc (TSX:REAL), which lost 5.12% or 1.45 points to trade at 26.86 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI) declined 4.70% or 0.38 points to end at 7.71 and Centerra Gold Inc (TSX:CG) shed 4.19% or 0.71 points to 16.22.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 571 to 505 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.86% or 16.80 to $1935.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.85% or 0.37 to hit $43.02 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.15% or 0.53 to trade at $45.63 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.11% to 0.7618, while CAD/EUR rose 0.19% to 0.6443.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 93.007.
